  • Summer means vacation time for kids! It’s something kids look forward to, with school out of the way and new activities to try.

Spending summer at home doesn’t have to be boring! Since we’re still living in the pandemic, it limits the things to do in the summer unlike before. But don’t fret! Here are some creative ways to make your summer fun with your kids at home:

    1. Arts & Crafts

There are lots of creative activities you can do at home, as most art materials are relatively affordable and easy to use. Doing art can encourage kids to have their imaginations and creativity run wild. It is an activity that can hone your kid’s creative skills. Here are some art activities you can do at home:

    • Drawing

    • Crochet, Weave, and Knit

    • Dyeing shirts

    • Painting

    • Origami-making

    2. Read Books Together

When you think of summer activities, reading a book is not something you first think of. This may sound boring, but the secret to it is to find a book that interests your kid. Look for a book that your kid may find interesting to read. This can be a great time to bond and learn at the same time.

    3. Cook or Bake with your Kids

Cooking is a fun activity to do with your kids, no matter their age. It is a good bonding activity with kids as you both get involved with preparing the food. With this activity, your kids can learn to cook and aid you in the kitchen. This can also teach them to be independent in making their food when they’re older. Plus, you get to enjoy the food both of you made when you’re done.

    4. Science Experiments

This is a great indoor summer activity for kids to further stimulate their brains. It is fun for them to see experiments smoke, explode, and many more. One parental tip is that kids learn best when they’re using their senses, such as sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. They’re more likely to learn and remember such because they experience it.

    5. Exercise

If you’re thinking of what to do in summer, exercise can be one option. This is challenging to do, but it is fun when you do it right. When you find the right routine that you and your kids can do, you’ll get to enjoy it whilst staying healthy and physically well. If you are not into straight-up workout routines, you can incorporate dancing such as Zumba, which can get you moving and grooving.

    6. Camp in your backyard

Camping is the activity during summer your kids will truly enjoy. If you have a tent available, build it with your kids in your backyard. This is a fun bonding activity and it will surely make your kids learn how to build stuff. Since it is not advisable to camp out in the woods because of the pandemic, the backyard will do for now. You can bring out the sleeping bags, then tell stories and sleep until the morning. If you have space for a bonfire, cook up some s’mores and other campfire-friendly meals!

    7. Plan an outdoor picnic in your garden

This is something you can do indoors, but it’s much more fun when you do it outdoors. It is one of the easiest activities you can do with your kids, since everything you need is at your home. Just set up a picnic mat and decorate it with flowers so that it would look nice, just like decorating the dining table. You can prepare a charcuterie board with the kids and put everything they want to eat, such as crackers, fruits, cheese, and many more. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy the warm summer breeze and sunlight.

    8. Home Cinema

This is one of the easiest activities you can do with your kids as you can makeshift the living room or your bedroom into a home cinema. Since it is still not safe to go to the movies, you can do it at home instead. Just close the curtains/blinds, turn the lights off and make some popcorn and drinks to have that authentic cinema experience. Watch the family’s favorite film for the best family movie night experience.

    9.  Play Dress Up

Dressing up is one fun activity to do, especially when playing as their creativity and imaginations run wild. This can make them enjoy their playtime more and be more immersed. Plus, you’ll never know where you can find your wardrobe. Dress-ups are always fun to do and it makes the experience more memorable.

    10. Set up a DIY pool to cool off!

The list of summer activities for kids will never be complete without the DIY pool. It is a must-do when it is summer, as summer is about going to the beach or pool. The new normal has changed the way we live and the best way for us to continue enjoying living is to adapt. While the world is slowly going back to normal, it is important to still consider the safety of our children. Spending summer at home can still be fun with all the activity ideas mentioned above and as long as you are happily spending time with them!
