Most parents, when often asked what they want for their kids, usually answer the same thing: For their kids to be successful and happy in life.

Raising children will never be an easy job especially when you want them to succeed and live their lives to the fullest. You have to put in extra effort and give your very best to make it happen.

7 Tips and Ways to Raise a Happy Child

What can you exactly do in order to create a safe environment and build a healthy relationship with your child? Here are 7 tips to raise a happy child so she can grow having a positive outlook in life and appreciate it to the fullest!

1. Teach her gratitude.

A lot of studies have linked the feelings of gratitude to emotional well-being. In order to foster happiness for a child, parents must teach them to be grateful as it also fosters positive feelings and emotions.

Being grateful also teaches your child to be always optimistic in life and to see the blessings above the challenges that they will face. This also shows them to be content with what they have and can be thankful for it!

2. Let her make mistakes.

There is no perfect person, we all make mistakes – it is our choice if we try again and learn from them which also includes your children!

Teach them that making mistakes is okay, as long as they learn from them!

By allowing them to make mistakes and learn from them as they continue to grow, you are teaching them to be determined to be better in order for their best versions of themselves to flourish. It will also allow your child to be independent while building their self-esteem! Remember, a happy child is a child with good self-esteem.

3. Praise efforts, not achievements.

While it is a common parenting style to share positive comments and praise your child in whatever they do, praising the wrong things can also affect them in the future. Praising achievements may not be as healthy as it seems because it establishes that you are only praised because of the outcome.

As a parenting advice: instead of praising the outcome, praise the creativity, hard work, persistence more than the achievement itself. This will allow your child to not feel pressured and let them enjoy the process more which makes them happier in exploring and discovering new things!

4. Spend quality time with her.

One of the many ways to assure you are building a happy and healthy environment with your children is to spend quality time with them through different simple activities such as playtime or simply having dinner together.

By spending time with them, you get to better understand and know who they are, what they like and don’t like, and get a deeper understanding of their personalities, which can help you provide them what they need in life. It also shows them that you are present and there for them which assures them that they are not alone.

5. Give her real responsibilities.

It is human nature for people to feel that they are needed in order to feel happy and they belong in something. Giving your child real responsibilities will make them feel that they are needed and valued. Assign them simple tasks like household chores to allow them to make contributions for the family. This will also boost confidence in themselves and will make them feel that they are capable of doing responsibilities!

6. Encourage her to build connections and relationships.

Parents teaching their child to build relationships and connections is very important in their growth. One of the many ways to promote happiness in your child’s life is to help them feel connected to others. Having that feeling of being loved, understood, wanted and acknowledged is key to happiness.

Encourage your child to make friends. You can start by arranging playdates with friends who also have children with the same age or advise them to get to know kids from school.

7. Learn to be happy yourself.

Lastly, children will always look up to their parents and will consider them as role models. Not only that they mimic whatever they see, they would also acquire a lot of traits from their parents. Children absorb everything from us. Happy parents are likely to have happier kids. That is why it is also important for parents to take care of their own happiness for their children to be happy!

While there is no perfect equation for happiness, the best parents can do for their children is to make an effort and be the best they can be in order for them to foster happiness and success among their children. Just always remember, that when it comes to your child, you have to give and do your best and the rest will follow!
