Easy Homemade Valentine’s Day Treats for You and Your Kids!

  • It’s time to celebrate Valentine’s Day! 

     

    Are you thinking of getting Valentine’s Presents on a budget? Why not make Valentine’s Day special for your kids by giving them delicious Valentine treats instead? 

     

    We’ve curated 5 easy Valentine treats recipes for you to try at home! 


    Chocolate-dipped Strawberries

    What you’ll need:

    • 15 Medium-Sized Strawberries
    • 100 grams of chopped chocolate of your choice
    • Toppings of your choice (Sprinkles, nuts, chocolate chips, etc.) 

     

    Procedure:

     

    1. Place a sheet of parchment paper or silicone baking mat on your baking pan
    2. Melt your chocolate in a small bowl by microwaving it for 20 seconds. Stir gently. Repeat until completely melted. 
    3. Pour your melted chocolate into a smaller glass for easier dipping. 
    4. Dip your strawberries into the chocolate and tap gently to remove the excess. You can place in your toppings such as sprinkles, nuts, or chocolate chips, or drizzle with another kind of chocolate on your strawberries. 
    5. Transfer to your parchment paper and refrigerate for a few hours. 
    6. Once the chocolate is completely hardened, serve and enjoy with your kids! 

     

    Frozen Yogurt Hearts

     

    Looking for Valentine Treats that’s yummy yet healthy at the same time? Try this Frozen Yogurt Hearts this Valentine’s Day!

    What you’ll need: 

     

    • 1 cup mixed berries of your choice (Strawberries, blueberries etc.)
    • 1 cup plain yogurt
    • Heart-shaped silicone ice cube trays (or any would do!)

     

    Procedure:

     

    1. Place your mixed berries in a blender. Blend until coarsely chopped. 
    2. Add your yogurt and blend until smooth. 
    3. Pour your mixture into your heart silicone ice cube trays and transfer into the freezer. Freeze for at least 3-4 hours or until frozen solid. 
    4. Once solid, serve and enjoy with your kids! 
    5. Transfer into freezer bags to store. 

     

    Heart-Shaped Waffles

    Make it a Valentine Special with Heart Shaped Waffles for breakfast!

    What you’ll need:

     

    • 2 eggs, separate yolks and white
    • 1/4 cup white sugar
    • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 3 tbsp butter, melted
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 pinch of salt
    • Heart-shaped waffle maker or anything available at home! 

     

    Procedure:

    1. Place your egg yolks in a large mixing bowl with sugar. Beat until fluffy. Mix in your vanilla sugar and water. Once evenly combined, add in half of your melted butter, half your buttermilk and half your flour. Mix until smooth. 
    2. Mix in your remaining butter, buttermilk, flour, and salt, and beat again until your batter is smooth. 
    3. In a separate bowl, beat your egg whites with an electric mixer until it still forms peaks. Gently fold and mix your egg whites to your batter. 
    4. Preheat your waffle maker. 
    5. Once ready, spoon 1/3 cup of batter into your waffle maker, close the lid and wait until the waffle is golden brown. Repeat with your remaining batter. 
    6. Place it on a plate and serve it for breakfast! 
    7. To make it more special, you can add in fruits like strawberries, blueberries or bananas.

     


    Red Velvet Cookies

     

    Make their Valentine’s Day a lot sweeter with these Red Velvet Cookies!

    What you’ll need:

    • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 cup butter
    • ¾ packed brown sugar
    • ½ white sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 tsp red food coloring
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • ½ cup of semisweet chocolate

     


    Procedure:

    1. Preheat your oven to 180 °C
    2. In a large bowl, whisk together your flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
    3. Using a mixer, in a separate bowl — beat together your butter, brown sugar and white sugar. Add in your egg, food coloring and vanilla. Mix until completely combined.
    4. Add your flour mix to your butter mixture. Mix until combined. Fold in your chocolate chips. 
    5. Scoop your dough onto your baking sheets while adding spaces in between your cookies. 
    6. Place in your oven and bake for at least 9-12 minutes. 
    7. Once baked, let it cool for 5 minutes on a wire rack. 
    8. Serve and enjoy! 

     

    Valentine’s Day Strawberry Muffins

    What you’ll need:

     

    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
    • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
    • 4 large eggs
    • 2 tsp lemon extract
    • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
    • 1 1/2 chopped fresh strawberries
    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1/2  tsp salt
    • 12 slices of fresh strawberry
    • 1 tablespoon white sugar

     

    Procedure:

    1. Mix your lemon juice with your milk to make soured milk. Let it stand for at least 5 minutes before using.
    2. Preheat your oven to 180 C
    3. Place your paper liners in your muffin tins
    4. Cream together your butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar in a large bowl. Add your eggs one at a time while beating. Add in your lemon extract.
    5. Gradually stir in your lemon zest and soured milk. Add and fold in your chopped strawberries. 
    6. In another bowl,mix your flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. 
    7. Stir together your butter and flour mixtures until your dry ingredients are just moistened. 
    8. Place your batter into the muffin cups to about 2/3 full. Place a strawberry slice on top of each muffin and sprinkle some of the 1 tbsp white sugar. 
    9. Bake in your preheated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes. Cool in a rack for 5 minutes before serving.
    10. Serve and enjoy!
