The rainy season can cancel plans- especially if they are outdoor plans. It can dampen the mood, even more for young children who look forward to these types of activities. It’s hard to handle toddlers – especially when they’re moody. Since the rainy season makes it hard for families to go out, why not consider spending some time inside the house with some fun activities?

While it’s not on par with the adventures that we can do outside the house, there are also activities you can enjoy inside.

Here are some activities to do with your kids at home during the rainy season.

5 Activities to Do With Your Kids at Home

The rainy season lessens doable outdoor activities and puts our loved ones at risk of becoming sick. That said, it’s best to consider alternatives when we have to cancel our planned outdoor ones.

Here are five activities that you can do with your kids at home during the rainy season:

Camp Indoors

You can pitch a tent or make your own small tent by draping sheets over your couch. To add to the experience, you can also pack a couple of snacks to bring to your makeshift camp. If you have the means to do so, you can even make s’mores to up your bonding with your kids. Apart from playing board games, you can also stream your kids’ favorite movies while waiting for the night to end.

Conduct a Science Experiment

If you have kids who love to experiment or create things, you can host your own science experiment at home. You can search for experiments online that are best for the age group of your children. Just be careful so that you don’t break or destroy anything in doing the experiment. Conduct your science experiments in a controlled environment so that you don’t risk affecting the other people in the house or risk damaging items around the house.

Bake and Cook Together

Undoubtedly, one of the best activities to do with your kids is cooking and baking. Not only will it allow you to bond with your kids but it also teaches them to be independent when you allow them to do certain tasks on their own. While this is more recommended for older kids, you can get your toddlers to help in the kitchen as well either by mixing ingredients or by being the taste tester. It’s a great family bonding experience that the whole family can try to do on a rainy day.

Bring Out the Board Games

While most kids prefer playing on their tablets and phones, it’s great to introduce them to board games – especially when it’s family bonding time. You can play an exciting game of Monopoly or have a strategic battle with Game of the Generals – depending on what board games you have, you can create a sequence of how you can play them. To add to the excitement, you can also add challenges that the losing family member or team can do.

Have a Movie Marathon

Nothing beats spending time with your family and kids than a good ol’ movie marathon. Create a list of films that you and your kids enjoy then gather your snacks and popcorn. Remember to curate the films that you’ll be watching according to the ages of your kids. You might also want to ask them for their opinion regarding the films that they would like to see; that way, you can make sure that everyone gets to watch their favorite movies.

While the rainy season prevents most families from heading out of the house, you can always compromise by bringing the fun indoors. You can create fun experiences on your own and in the comforts of your home and give your family a chance to bond without worrying about the challenges that going outdoors might have.
